Welcome to another EOS 5D Mark IV quick tip. I'm Rudy Winston, and in this episode, we'll discuss some basics of the EOS 5D Mark IV's Dual Pixel CMOS AF during video recording. 

One of its highlights is Movie Servo AF, the ability to continuously focus even on moving subjects. You can activate or disable Movie Servo AF in the red shooting menu on the 4th menu screen. 

Disabling it makes it easy to focus once on a stationary subject and keep focus there. When it's active, you can pause or lock the continuous AF by touching an on-screen button labeled Servo AF. 

Tap it again to resume Movie Servo AF. Several buttons on the camera can be customized as well to lock Movie Servo AF. Then define the area you'll use for AF. There are three choices under AF method on the 4th red shooting menu screen or on the touchscreen after you've pressed the Q button.

Safety Tech + Tracking covers a broad area of a scene and will select a prominent human face and continue to follow it around the image area. 

You can tap the screen to refocus on another subject even if it's not a face. Plexitone Multi is a bit different; this provides autofocus over a broad area as well but with automatic focusing on the nearest detailed subject in a scene. 

Again, you can tap the screen to slightly reduce the size of the AF area and put focus on another part of the scene. Finally, there's Flexizone Single, which gives you one small AF point on the LCD monitor. 

You can tap the screen to reposition it or even drag it along the screen. With Movie Servo AF active, the camera will smoothly and continuously refocus as you move. 

It's a single AF point. There's more; you can change Movie Servo AF speed as the camera refocuses on new subjects, and there's a separate adjustment for tracking sensitivity. 

How quickly will the AF system respond to new subjects as they appear? These two settings let you define the character of your continuous video AF with the EOS 5D Mark IV.

The technical limits of earlier digital SLRs often restricted you to pre-focusing before actual video recording begins. 

The EOS 5D Mark IV opens up some new doors in video operation, and its Dual Pixel CMOS AF is a big part of the reason why. If you record video with this camera, give it a try.
